Merchant Navy Preparation Guide
A practical, free guide to organising your Merchant Navy exam preparation with MCQs, oral practice and revision.
ClassZee is a free study site for people preparing for Merchant Navy rating-level examinations. This guide explains how to combine the three tools on the site: MCQ practice, oral question revision and written revision notes.
Start with the big picture
The study material on ClassZee is split into two subject areas. MEK covers marine engineering knowledge: engine room machinery, pumps, valves, boilers, compressors, electrical safety, welding and similar topics. GAK covers general ship knowledge on the deck side and general topics such as ropes, anchors, cargo, bridge watchkeeping, safety and personal development. The source books behind the GAK questions label this material GSK.
A simple order of study
- Read the oral answers for one topic first, so the vocabulary is familiar.
- Attempt one MCQ set without notes and review every wrong answer.
- Return to the oral page for any topic you missed and re-read it.
- Repeat with a new set after a day or two.
Keep it realistic
No website can promise an exam result. Use ClassZee for practice and check official notices and your training institute for the actual syllabus, dates and requirements.
