Merchant Navy Exam Guide
How to approach written MCQ tests and oral questions when preparing for Merchant Navy rating exams.
Merchant Navy preparation commonly involves two styles of assessment: multiple-choice questions and oral questions. Exact formats, durations and pass marks are set by the relevant authority and your training institute, so always confirm them from official or institute sources. ClassZee does not publish official exam rules.
MCQ tests
Multiple-choice tests reward careful reading. Read the whole question, then every option, before choosing. Technical questions often differ by one word, such as pressure and vacuum or strainer and filter.
Oral questions
Oral questions ask you to explain a task or a machine in your own words. Practise answering aloud in short, ordered steps: what it is, what it does, what you check, what you do if something goes wrong.
